Capacity-building & Representation

Our draft positioning of the ESCC within the Quebec collectivity and draft organogram, aim to convey how our organizational priorities and decisions are focused on enriching the quality of life and vibrancy of the community in which we live (please note that the concentric circles in the former do not aim to be proportionate to the reality in terms of numbers of persons potentially represented at any given time). Through collaborative outreach, advocacy and support programs, notably growing the interfaith and intercultural spaces within which we are called to evolve, we actualize our faith, community roots and cultural identity of giving and sharing.

On September 23, the ESCC welcomed Aroha Cheema as its very first Communications and Project Coordinator. Aroha has a BA in International Development Studies and Comparative Politics, as well as a Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Civil Law from McGill University. Her commitment to social justice is reflected in her work at Concordia University’s Legal Information Clinic during her last year of studies as well as her extensive volunteer work with organizations like Vanier Student Association, Oxfam Quebec, Shield of Athena, McGill Model UN and Centre d’Appui aux communautés immigrantes. A brief mandate at Collective Community Services has enriched her understanding of community needs. We are delighted to have restored staffing to its full complement (2 persons, each working 4 days/week), ready to pivot on our legacy and build outreach as well programs.

As for the committees foreseen to align and support the co-design and piloting of projects focused on giving a voice and providing sustainable opportunities to contribute to the social impact of our activities, we will start with the Youth and Outreach committees. We provide some detail regarding youth in the next article and underscore that we will strive to engage parish and multisectoral representation within the Outreach Committee membership.

Soon, a renewed Advisory Committee will inform the building of relationships with new partners and collaborators, the upholding or strengthening of the ones we are invested in. We recognize we share a mission with many others and rejoice in coming together to be of service to underrepresented groups with variable degrees of vulnerability and agency!
